در زمان سلطنت احمد شاه، تاجری فرنگی به بهانه رونق فرهنگ و هنر قصد دارد با پركردن چند صفحه از چند موسیقی دان ایرانی، ردیف های اصیل ایرانی را كه در حال فراموشی است، از گزند گذر زمان محفوظ نگه دارد. به همین منظور از آقاحسین دلنواز خواسته می شود كه جمعی از بهترین نوازندگان برگزیند. این قصد و برنامه سفر به فرنگ با مشكلاتی مواجه می شود. اما استاد دلنواز خود تصمیم می گیرد این برنامه را عملی كند. در فرنگ صدای دلنشین اهرخان خواننده گروه، هنگام تمرین، موجب شفای لیلا برادرزاده سفیر عثمانی می شود كه در مجاورت باغ پانسیون گروه زندگی می كند. هوای سرد و موذی فرنگ طاهرخان را كه جسماً آدم ضعیفی است، دچار ذات الریه می كند. آنها پس از اتمام كارهای ضبط صفحه، دچار مشكلات مالی شده مجبور می شوند برای جبران، كنسرتی برپا كنند. طاهر بیمار تمام جانش را در آوایش می نهد… در راه بازگشت، به زمان آغاز جنگ اول جهانی، كشتی مسافربری حامل آنها اشتباهاً مورد اصابت گلوله های توپ قرار می گیرد و اثاثیه مسافران به آب ریخته می شود. صندوق صفحات پر شده برامواج آب شناور می گردد.
